Product Manager | High Throughput and Automated Genomics - Hampshire, UK
The Role
Product Manager to define, with input from the Director of Strategic Marketing and Business Development (DSMBD), the strategic direction of the product area/segments. Responsibility (with DSMBD) for implementation of the defined Marketing Plan and achievement of set goals, by segment, including the marketing mix, customer strategies, channel strategies, promotional plans and product life cycle management. Ongoing development of expert knowledge regarding all aspects of the products (technical knowledge) and the market segments (customers, collaborative partners, competitors, applications, technology, regulations, suppliers etc) is essential to exploit business opportunities.
The successful individual will be part of the strategic marketing team and responsible for the strategic direction of the products in the UK and UK-managed distributor markets.
- Establish and maintain lines of communication at all appropriate levels to develop a specific customer needs identification and analysis.
- Define a strong, dynamic go to market strategy for all aspects of Promega’s automated chemistry portfolio including:
- Nucleic Acid Extraction
- Quantitation dyes
- Maxwell reagents and benchtop systems
Strategy must include but is not limited to:
- Target setting, management and achievement
- Systems (Promega and Third party)
- Chemistry
- Collaborations
- Market sectors/segments
- Marketing plan including conference selection and attendance
- Development/management of key collaborations (e.g. liquid handling companies like Analytik Jena)
- Resource (current and future requirements)
- Execute strategy with cross-functional teams including sales managers and field support specialists
- Develop Promega into a key supplier of automated chemistry and systems in the UK and Ireland market
- Monitor and report competitor activities, technical developments, pricing and trends.
Specific Tasks
- Identify key market sectors and target customers for Promega
- Develop specific Strategic Marketing plans, tailored for each sector
- Manage the execution of Strategic Marketing plans with support teams
- Develop targeted Marketing campaigns aligned with sales strategies using existing CRM contacts
- Add new contacts to CRM obtained by marketing channels, data mining, conferences, field visits etc
- Manage new product launches in this area
- Business development and opportunity management (with sales teams)
- Manage customer event days centered around product (with or without collaborators)
- Support UK sales teams with customer presentations of product where necessary
- Project manage high value chemistry and system opportunities work up with Sales Specialists
- Promote out successes at Key Customer sites (with KOLs) via Marketing Services
- Work with Madison Product Management team to feedback developing trends in UK market place and influence product development accordingly
Employee Profile
- Currently a product manager with experience in assessing market opportunity with a strategic eye
- Demonstrable experience in translating Strategic Marketing plans in revenue generation
- Experience with automation either with Hamilton/Tecan/Beckman liquid handlers or QIAGen/Thermo with QIACube/QIASymphony or Kingfisher
- Experience with automated chemistry (especially Nucleic Acid Extraction and Quantitation) and applications in commercial, public laboratories and or/clinical environments
- Personable, with the ability to work as part of a dynamic team
- Results oriented, lateral thinker and responsive
- Needs to be flexible and able to adapt to new challenges
- Strong practical sense combined with a “can do” attitude is key to successful performance but you must also have the ability to work as part of a dynamic team.

Qualifications and Experience Required
- Life sciences degree or higher
- Highly responsive and motivated self-starter, capable of working with minimum supervision to achieve revenue targets
- Product management experience in the life science market or field-applications support experience with a strong desire to move into a more strategic/commercial role
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to source and assimilate customer needs and market information
- Highly organised and skilled at managing time effectively
- Capable of learning and communicating features and benefits of highly innovative products to customers
- Able to listen and respond to customer needs
- Prior experience in sales would be useful
- Ability to use a range of PC based applications
- Marketing experience such as CIM would be beneficial.
