History
Significant events in our company history
1978
Bill Linton founds Biotec, later named Promega.
1980s
RNasin® RNase Inhibitor launched. During the COVID-19 pandemic, RNasin was key for SARS-CoV-2 research and vaccine research and development.
First International Symposium on Human Identification held. In 2024, ISHI remains the single largest gathering of DNA and forensic analysts in the world.
1990s
Promega obtains bioluminescent sensor technology. Bioluminescent technology, an alternative to using radioactivity for experiments, has led to products for drug discovery, live-cell imaging, and environmental monitoring of disease organisms like SARS-CoV-2.
Promega was named among ”100 Best Companies” for working moms by Working Mother magazine.
2000s
Officials in New York use the newly developed Promega DNA IQ™ and PowerPlex® systems in the analysis of thousands of DNA samples to identify 9/11 victims.
DNA IQ™ System was named a Top 100 Technology by R&D magazine in 2002.
2010s
NanoBRET® TE Intracellular Kinase Assay wins SelectScience Reviewers’ Choice Award for Drug Discovery & Development Product of the Year.
Promega joins the United Nations Global Compact.
2020s
Promega provides global COVID-19 pandemic support by increasing manufacturing tenfold to meet demand.
