The MaxSpin® 96 System is designed to allow extraction of biological material from a solid support into a 96-well plate format. The extraction transitions samples into an automation-friendly format that is easily adapted for use with a liquid-handling platform.
The MaxSpin® 96 System consists of the following plastic consumable components: 100 baskets, 1 frame, 1 U-shaped collar and 1 plate (2.0ml 96-well, deep-well). One MaxSpin® 96 Kit contains 10 units of the MaxSpin® 96 System. All components are manufactured in alignment with the ISO 18385 standard.
An individual solid support sample (e.g., buccal swab) is placed into a basket, which is inserted into the MaxSpin® 96 Frame stacked atop the deep-well plate. Up to 96 baskets holding 96 individual samples can be inserted into a single MaxSpin® 96 Frame, with each basket fitting into a single well of the deep-well plate beneath the frame. Extraction solution is added to each well, and then the plate is heat incubated to allow release of biological materials off the solid support and into the surrounding liquid solution. After incubation, the frame (along with baskets) is lifted, and the MaxSpin® 96 Collar is inserted between the frame and plate to raise the baskets above the level of extraction solution within the plate wells. The device is then centrifuged, allowing the liquid extractant to separate from the solid support by passing through the small holes at the bottom of each basket. The baskets, frame and collar are then discarded. The liquid extractant samples remaining in the MaxSpin® 96 Plate can be prepared for nucleic acid purification with an automated liquid handler platform.
