Direct Capture of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in 2 Hours
The Enviro Total Nucleic Acid Kits for Wastewater include reagents and consumables to concentrate and purify total nucleic acids (TNA) in one convenient kit. Our unique vacuum-based direct capture method simplifies sample processing by concentrating and capturing viral TNA quicker than precipitation methods without the use of cumbersome ultracentrifugation, while achieving high and consistent yield. The entire process from sample to purified TNA takes less than 2 hours and is scalable and adaptable to your needs. The process also removes most PCR inhibitors, so the resulting TNA can be used directly for amplification of SARS-CoV-2 RNA using the SARS-CoV-2 RT-qPCR Kit for Wastewater.
We offer three kit formats based on sample throughput. Direct capture of nucleic acids is followed by purification using mini spin columns or benchtop automation using Maxwell® Instruments. A plate-based high-throughput kit is also available. An optional step can be included to extract nucleic acids from solid samples.
Choose A Format For Your Sample Throughput
Manual: Vacuum + Spin Column
The Wizard® Enviro Total Nucleic Acid Kit (A2991) allows you to get purified TNA in 90 minutes or less with a simple protocol. First, the TNA is directly captured from wastewater using the PureYield™ Midicolumn and Vac-Man® Laboratory Vacuum Manifold. Then, the lysate is further cleaned using PureYield™ Minicolumns. The recommended protocol starts from 40ml of wastewater and results in 40µl of TNA.

Maxwell® Automation: Vacuum + Maxwell® Extraction
The Maxwell® RSC Enviro Total Nucleic Acid Kit (AS1831) allows you to get purified TNA in 2 hours with vacuum-based direct capture of TNA followed by automated TNA extraction using Maxwell® Instruments. The Maxwell® RSC Instrument can process 1 to 16 samples, and the Maxwell® RSC 48 Instrument can process 1 to 48 samples in a single run. Viral TNA is first captured from wastewater using the PureYield™ Midicolumn and Vac-Man® Laboratory Vacuum Manifold. Then, the lysate is loaded into the Maxwell® RSC Instrument for walkaway RNA extraction. The recommended protocol starts from 40ml of wastewater and results in 40µl of TNA.

High-Throughput Concentration and Extraction: Plate-Based
High-throughput extraction solution designed for efficient, automated purification of TNA from environmental samples such as wastewater. This solution is compatible with upstream concentration methods—including magnetic particle-based approaches like Ceres Nanotrap® technology—which must be sourced separately. Simple Direct Capture Protocol
The filter-based Direct Capture method allows rapid purification and concentration of viral nucleic acids from large volumes of wastewater samples.

Direct Capture Results in Higher Yield Than PEG/NaCl
Preliminary data shows the direct capture method resulted in 30 times higher SARS-CoV-2 RNA yield compared to PEG/NaCl. Wastewater samples were collected from a major US city.
