Module 3 - Understanding Why Cells Are Dying
My cells are dying! How can I tell if it is apoptosis or necrosis?
Understanding Mechanism of Action: Cytotoxicity
Multiplexing assays gathers more than one set of data from the same sample. The CellTox™ Green Cytotoxicity Assay can be multiplexed with other spectrally distinct measures of cell health to provide more information about why cells are dying. The CellTiter-Fluor™ Cell Viability Assay measures the activity of a conserved, constitutive protease within live cells and serves as a marker of cell viability. Caspase-3/7 activation is frequently used as a positive marker for apoptosis. The Caspase-Glo® 3/7 Assay provides a sensitive means of monitoring caspase activation.
Understanding Mechanism of Action: Cell Proliferation
The key benefit of multiplexing is gaining a better understanding of the event you are measuring in the context of another parameter, minimizing faulty interpretation of data or ambiguity from data sets. Multiplexing can show that an apparent reduction in cell viability is actually from a nonproliferative effect, not cytotoxicity.
